The 23-year-old had been at Liverpool for seven years, having been snapped up from Valencia for just £2million in July 2013.

Chirivella made his debut in September 2015 as an 18-year-old but subsequently went three years without another senior game for the Reds, though he picked up first-team experience at Go Ahead Eagles, Willem II and Extremadura on loan.

The Spaniard kicked on this season, coming on as a substitute in Liverpool’s League Cup wins over MK Dons and Arsenal before captaining the Reds in the quarter-final meeting with Aston Villa and also featuring against Everton and Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup.

However, with his Liverpool contract running out, he has opted to up sticks in search of first-team football, leaving Anfield with just 11 first-team appearances under his belt.

On Friday afternoon, Ligue 1 side Nantes confirmed on their official website and on social media that Chirivella is to join on a contract until the summer of 2023.

Former Liverpool chief Spanish scout David Vizcaino was left stunned by Chirivella back in 2016, being quoted by the Daily Mail as saying: “Just talking about Pedro Chirivella gives me goosebumps.

“In England there would have to be 100 Pedro Chirivellas in order to revolutionise English football. Chirivella is football, he has intelligence, control, technique, personality. I expect great things from him.”

Best of luck to the guy, deserves to play. He wanted to play more and we couldn’t accomodate him.
