Bill and Ted Face the Music, aka Bill and Ted 3, is on its way to tell another most excellent tale, and here’s everything we know about it. In 1989, Bill and Ted went on their excellent adventure through time. In 1991, a bogus journey took them to hell and back, and they returned ready to give rock and roll to everyone. The pair looked set to embark on a most triumphant future, but 30 years later, the Wyld Stallyns have yet to live up to their destiny.

That’s where Bill S. Preston, Esq. and Ted "Theodore" Logan find themselves at the beginning of Bill and Ted Face the Music, as both men are now middle-aged with kids, but have yet to become the world-saving stars Rufus and his future society foretold. When it was first announced that a third Bill and Ted movie was in the works, some fans were hesitant, and worried whether the duo in their 50s would still work. As the sequel’s release draws closer though, anticipation is steadily building.

Bill and Ted Face the Music hits theaters this summer, and sends the title characters on another time-traveling quest. Here’s what we know about the movie so far, including its release date, cast, plot, and trailer.

Bill and Ted Face the Music struts into theaters on August 21, 2020. Coronavirus concerns made many wonder if the film would get delayed, but distributor United Artists remains committed to getting Bill and Ted back on the big screen before the summer is over.

In addition to the obvious return of Alex Winter as Bill and Keanu Reeves as Ted, Brigette Lundy-Paine (Atypical) is set to play Ted’s daughter Billie, while Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) plays Bill’s daughter Thea. The roles of Bill and Ted’s princess wives are now being played by Jayma Mays and Erin Hayes, respectively. Gotham’s Anthony Carrigan will play the currently unnamed villain in Bill and Ted Face the Music, while Kristen Schaal plays Kelly, a new messenger from the future, although the late George Carlin’s Rufus will appear using archive footage. Rapper Kid Cudi is set to play himself in Bill and Ted 3, while William Sadler returns from Bogus Journey as Death. Rounding things out is Holland Taylor as The Great Leader, the future’s most powerful authority.

The premise of Bill and Ted Face the Music is a fairly simple one. Having failed to write the song that would unite and save the world in the future, Bill and Ted set out to simply travel forward in time to when the song already exists and bring it back. Of course, it’s far from that easy, and the titular duo are forced to seek help from their families, friends, celebrities, and more to complete their mission, thus averting a catastrophe.

Orion Pictures and United Artists released the first trailer for Bill and Ted Face the Music on June 9, 2020, referencing the iconic "69 dudes!" moment from the original film. The official poster for the film was also released, and both can be seen above.
